Journey of Sounds
by Fercho Valdivia
Today I just want to share a band that still is digging in my ears, I remember hearing them in some point of my life. But these days I have been in a deep hearing; for some reason my shuffle playlist put it on.I was listening to black metal so I don’t know how they get there, anyway I can´t stop listening over and over again. The band is call All Them Withches
Formed near Nashville, Tennessee by Charles Parks, Robby Staebler, Ben Mcleod and Allan Van Cleave they give us an extraordinary sound full of rock, progressive, psychedelic and making honoring at their homeland blues sounds.
So, I´m going to tell you about every record and mention some of my favorite’s song of each, grab your headphones, beer and enjoy.
“Our Mother Electricity” was the debut album in 2012. The intro is awesome, It tells me that something deep is coming and indeed the complete album is amazing, every track is stunning full with riffs and if you just close your eyes it will take you away. The pick tracks are Heavy/Like a Witch. The keyboard is stunning; Guns is perfect for walking like a badass, then just sit an enjoy your beer; Elk.Blood.Heart just an incredible trip between sounds the psychedelia is there; Easy ,grab the bottle of whisky and let your mind go to the darkest memories. That’s my pick, enjoy the album.
“Lighting At The Door” saw the light in 2013. First of all, the art cover is insane, The album feels more heavier and deeper, every song is like a roller coaster your ears can´t get enough everything matches perfectly. It’s hard pick my favorite ones but the choice has been made; The Marriage Of The Coyote Woman is the kind of song that makes you feel it is endless, the first notes is depict the blues influences and the melancholy voice make the perfect combination the song just drives us in an endless trip ; Swallowed By The Sea is chaotic from start to end is magic every sound is perfectly imperfect, weird, but that´s why I like it is full of sounds making the perfect enviroment; The death of the coyote woman another psychedelic trip with ups and downs a hypnotic song.
2015 is here and it came with “Dying Surfer Meets His Marker”, how can I say it?, this album is nasty, dirty and soft, for me this one is like exotic the kind of album you can have the night of your life, you know what I mean; The top song are; El Centro is heavy and the drums on this one are fast and constant just a crazy trip in other words a storm in the Paradise; This Is Where It Falls Apart, grab a bottle of whisky and let the pain and sadness go away a very sensual rhythm, slow, elegant and exotic, feel every note let your soul leave your body; Open Passageways is calm but ath the same time intense you can feel the sadness coming to an epic end; Blood and Sand /Milk And Endless Waters the perfect ending, the beginning is really powerful and step by step you get into the music, is more calm but you came for a high note as I said before is a roll coaster.
How is everything going? Ready for the last part? Is 2017 and “Sleeping Through The War” born at the begin the guitar starts the journey, sweet melody’s and a nostalgic voice welcome us but the song Bull makes another cheap trick and the guitar sounds powerful the music is dizzy and magical with a lot of noise in perfect harmony; Don´t Bring Me Coffee just rock, great riffs just like a rainbow little by little getting higher just perfect, also love that kind of little pause and then going higher again. Alabaster is amazing great rhythm like a happy/ psychedelic, another day in someone mind a heavy and crazy day; Cowboy Kirk the sadness in his voice is my favorite part and the solo is pretty tasty, this the song to sing while drinking whisky, relieve the pain of love. Is not my favorite album, how to put it?… is ok.
All right, we are here 2018 and the last album release was “ATW” by this time they lost Allan Van Cleave and Jonathan Draper joined the band recording keyboards for this album.
ATW is astounding, each song takes you by the hand and make it so much pleasant to hear It, love the high notes and the low notes. So, the chosen ones are; Fishbelly 86 onions is great way to star, rocker, heavy and stylish, this kind of song are the ones that you can say “simple sometimes is the best”; 1st vs 2nd is fast and the guitars sounds like heavy metal an a hallucinating riffs at the end closing the song in total chaos; Diamond is dark and heavy, the voice is deep an as the song goes on the keyboards make you feel you are in another dimension, is an unique trip; the next song is my favorite for all the album Harvest Feast is stunning such a bluesy melody I just can’t describe how this song makes me feel, my senses just shut down, if you close your eyes you can feel the nothingness around you. Every song is awesome the band show a creative and talented performance just put your headphones.
We are in the end Howllers, you must give the opportunity to the band you will not regret it. Every time I listen always find different sounds and the mood you are into influences a lot, so be ready to give to your ears the best therapy ever.
